Mistvale

Name: Mistvale

Location: On the eastern edge of the Kingdom of Aelfir, approx. one-hundred miles east-southeast of Blue Snows, in the foothills of the Blue Mountains. The village stands near the border of the region referred to as the Giant Lands. It sits over a doorway into the Faerie Realm, where most of the inhabitants actually live.

Rulers: Mistvale is not ruled by any single individual. It is led by a council of Crystal Lords and Ladies, who serve to guide the people more than rule them. They themselves are advised, especially on matters of external affairs, by the human Frty Lember (NG hm W16). While the people of Mistvale pay heed to the council and its wisdom, they often make their own decisions regarding their lives.

Population: Approximately 500 Crystal Children, divided fairly evenly among Sand, Wind, Sea and Flame Children.

Major Exports: None.

Description: The "town" of Mistvale lies in a small valley in the foothills of the eastern portion of the Blue Mountains. Hidden in a small, misty valley, the village consists of a small stockade, shaped directly out of the stone of the mountains themselves by the Sand Children.

The stockade is surrounded by a Wardmist spell, which, in combination with the natural fog that tends to fill the valley in all but the late afternoon hours, keeps the village well-hidden. The entire town is also covered by a permanent Screen which causes it to appear as a small peasant/shepherding village and the people to appear as normal humans.

Within the stockade, there are few buildings. The most important is a small guardhouse, generally manned by two guards at a time, which monitors the Wardmist and is the first to receive the alarm should any intruder attempt to penetrate the mist.

At the center of Mistvale, there lies a gate to the Fey Realm. The vast majority of the Crystal Children live on the other side of this doorway. Beyond the doorway, the landscape takes on a more extreme appearance. The mountains are taller, more craggy and windswept, while mountain lakes and streams abound. Just south of Mistvale, a volcano rises up, constantly rumbling, occasionally spewing forth gouts of hot lava. The fae landscape near Mistvale is a wondrous and imposing scene of natural beauty and raw elemental energy.

The Children continually strive to convert the land into areas comfortable to them, and in the several months since their immigration, they have been remarkably successful. The Children here are striving, though in secret for the time being, to create a new home on Eldreth for their people.

Important People

Frty Lember (NG hm W16) is a mage from the northern area of Faerun, on the planet Toril, in Realmspace. He is a friend of Jaren Agundar's and an even closer friend to Veltana (see below). He lives in Mistvale, and in the Faerie Realm beyond, with the Crystal Children. He advises them, and teaches them of the world outside their own, helping to keep them hidden and protected from those who would destroy or exploit them. It is a little known fact that Frty is actually a member of the Talonmist family of mages, and is in hiding from them. He takes care not to reveal his true identity, especially with Alcedric Talonmist holding so much power in the Southern Empire.

Veltana is a Lady of the Wind Children. A member of the council of Mistvale, she is well known among all the Crystal Children, for her instrumental part in reconnecting her people to their creator, and now for her role in winning this new home for them on Eldrith. Given her contribution to her people, it is believed that she will soon take on the mantle of Queen amongst her people, along with three of the other lords who form the council. In addition, she is also one of Fallon's (Jaren Agundar's familiar) "parents".

Girlon is a Sand Child who has long been a voice of good judgement among the Children. One of the original Crystal Children, he was one of the founders of their society. He has a sincere desire to see his people grow and multiply, and an even greater desire to build a place his people can truly call home. He is one of the most respected voices on the governing council, and will likely ascend from his current Lord status to King status soon.
