The Fated of the Koffu

These forty-five individuals were made known to the Knights by the Norns. Many of them have not yet undergone their moment of awakening, and most of them are young and yet untested. (A few are not...)

Ustus (14 total)

Kedamraas
Priest of the Vanir, one of the few patriarchs in the sphere and and elder among the fated Koffu, he maintains the first and greatest temple to the Vanir, a hidden complex in the Caves of the First Ones. Also serves as the main liason among the scattered temples that fell out of communication during the Vodoni occupation. A vocal opponent of the Vodoni, he nonetheless preaches patience and caution. Keldulas could not actually be scryed. Suspected Neutral, Neutral Good, or Chaotic Good. Naming unknown. Attempts to contact him have failed utterly, achieving no response at all. Attempts to locate the Caves of the First Ones were met with a polite warning note. No further attempts were made by the Vigilar in the area.

Amagoth

Priest of Vhaerun, young and vitriolic, ruthless opponent of the Vodoni. Though he has a great deal to learn, this junior priest has already begun to string together an underground resistance movement. He has also begun building a structure of codewords and procedures to keep identities secret, and knows most of his own operatives by codenames. Currently, he is desperately seeking some form of scry protection. Neutral Evil, Amagoth was scryed and marked. Amagoth considers himself a follower of the Naming of Ryld. In 1373, Ataiya extended certain offers to Amagoth to involve himself in a lucrative smuggling operation to forces offsphere. Amagoth refused the offer, but took the idea as his own and after getting funding from a loan shark. Later in 1373, he managed to acquire a cloak that protected him from divinations (which was not in fact bestowed on him by the Vigil). Amagoth is thought to have ties to the higher ranking priests of Vhaerun, even though he himself is a low ranking priest. The nature of these ties are unknown. He may have a secret patron that he does not know about.

Noredain

A young tribal prince of the ancient city of Navanae, atop the Cliffs of Singing Spirits, Noredain is frustrated by the cowardice of his elders and has turned away from family to follow his own path. A fiercely emotional and spiritual warrior, he inspires great personal trust in his followers. Chaotic Neutral, Noredain was scryed and marked. He is a follower of the naming of Anru. In 1373, an ancient warrior gifted Noredain with an amulet of proof vs. detection and location, 15' radius, then promptly dissappeared.

Belaril

A female bard of great skill, Belaril travels from place to place carrying news and rendering heroic acts into song. Beautiful and inspiring, more than one hero would gladly die rather than betray her. Chaotic Good, Belaril was scryed and marked. In 1373, Belaril had the good fortune of finding an amulet of proof vs. detection and location, and now continues rendering her poetic and inspiring vs. without fear of being located and kidnapped by the Vodoni.

Lambryn

A young sage who has now become a bionoid, Lambryn has made it his duty to chart and record the history of the Black Knights in Ustus. Other than a keen sense of judgement, he seems unremarkable, but he has exhibited an unusual knack for digging up secrets and somehow surviving the ire of those whom he has offended (often because of his irrepressable good humor). Neutral Good, Lambryn was scryed and marked. He is a follower of the Naming of Yalaena. In 1373, the Vigil contacted him to help build ties to the Black Knights and learn more about them. Fearful of a Vodoni trap, Lambryn accepted the amulet of proof vs. detection and location, but refused to help the Vigil until they have proven their trustworthiness - a difficult task.

Jhaster

A young and reckless thief and assassin, Jhaster works for whoever pays him the most money. Appears to venerate Vhaerun, but is not a particularly religious person. To date, he has contented himself with thefts of rare art pieces in large cities. Neutral Evil, Jhaster was scryed and marked. He follows the naming of Kalendrae, perhaps because of his early history among rural folk. However, he practices Kalendrae's darker crafts, such as poisoning and stealth.

Action Taken: None yet.

Isinghar

A mage and runecaster of considerable skill, Isinghar could not be scried and little is known about him, including his location. He is thought to be a generally kind, though reclusive, individual, who has so far not taken overt action against the Vodoni. He is publicly known to venerate Nurethein. All attempts by Serathin and the Vigil to locate and/or contact him have failed so far.

Llorri

A newly arisen leader among the Black Knights, Llorri was a devout worshipper of Ellistrae and has a knack for helping those cursed with the bionoid virus come to terms with their new lives. Even though her family remained relatively unscathed by the invaders, she nonetheless bears a passionate hatred for the Vodoni. She loved her people's peaceful ways, and grieves at the war-passion which has overcome her people. She tries to convince others that they must remember their old lives so they can return to them after the war, but must join together as one people to fight. Neutral Good, Llorri was scryed and marked. She belongs to the naming of Yalaena.

Llori was contacted by Serathin in Hammer of 1373 to cast a Communion spell to help search for the two drow involved in the Crux affair. She agreed to offer this aid, if she was permitted to use six of the nine questions. She used two of them to inquire about the Knights, and is now tentatively cooperating with them. She accepts aid in the form of minor magics and information about the Vodoni, and has agreed to leave small tokens hidden near the bodies of slain breeders for the Knights to retrieve their gear and magical items. She has made it clear, however, that she has no intention of betraying the Black Knights to Off-Worlders. The aid which she brings to her bionoid clan has boosted her to an even more prominent position of leadership. In 1373, she discovered an amulet of proof vs. detection and location, 15' radius.

Nym of Clan Hyluan

A follower of Ryld, Nym is a famous Robin Hood style bandit who defends the interests of the persecuted, whether by Koffu hands or Vodoni hands it matters not. He appears to be a warrior/bard, and often composes long and self-congratulatory ballads about his own activities. He and his band rove a great swath of territory, drawing upon local knowledge everywhere they go to avoid Vodoni patrols and stage effective ambushes. Ryld had the good fortune of attracting a skilled mage to his band early in the war. Scried and marked, Nym is Chaotic Good. In 1373, Ny was approached by Ataiya with an offer to help aid the Vigil's smuggling activities. He was offered an amulet of proof vs. detection and location as a signing bonus, and accepted.

Zundrin

Another priest of the Vanir, Zundrin is a peaceful young man who does not appear to be particularly driven or important at the moment. He maintains a small shrine in a medium sized village on the outskirts of a larger city. Chaotic Good, scryed and marked. Zundrin is a follower of the naming of Kalendrae. In 1373, Zundrin received secret warning that the Vodoni were seeking him out for a crime he did not commit. Forced to flee, Zundrin eventually joined the resistance movement, but attempted to avoid combat and isntead to tend to the spiritual well-being of the guerillas. His priestly mission ended when he was transformed into a bionoid in 1373. A month later, he discovered an Amulet of Proof vs. Detection and Location, 15' radius. Unlike most bionoids, he appears to retain some of his old healing magics.

Neshura

Now a member of the Chosen

Maimayr

A young apprentice sorceress and runecaster in a small, our of the way village. She is the seventh daughter of a small noble family, and was forced to find an occupation to finance herself. She does not mind, though, and is glad of the opportunity to make more of herself than a simple landowner. Neutral Good, scryed and marked. Maimayr follows the naming of Ryld. In 1372, she began forming her own adventuring company. In 1373, she discovered an amulet of proof vs. detection and location, 15' radius.

Kaeldryth

One of the few Koffu who fought the Vodoni in the first occupation, Kaeldryth has been waiting for their return for ten years. A skilled warrior by Koffu standards, Khaeldryth and his companions are one of the first and most successful guerilla bands who have been opposing the Vodoni in recent weeks. Though he had little formal training in warfare, he has an amazing ability to learn from his mistakes, and has made extensive use of non-orthodox methods of warfare. Neutral (Good), Kaeldryth was scried and marked. Though most of his followers chose the path of Anru, he himself follows the path of Baragel, the smith and inventor. In 1373, Kaeldryth stumbled across an old chest hidden in a village library. The chest contained copies of famous military texts and histories (planted by the Vigilar). Kaeldryth has drawn much inspiration from these ancient tales. In 1373, he discovered an amulet of proof vs. detection and location, 15' radius.

Korethaen

Inducted into the Vigilar. See separate file.

Pro-Belbol (14 total)

Yalaethra
From the Naming of Yalaena, this well educated Koffu woman tries to serve as a young clan councillor and to maintain the peace in spite of the many difficulties and troubles. She may in time become a key intermediary between the Koffu and the Vodoni, for she honestly desires peace. Even so, she overlooks certain hostile activities in her village, while trying to discourage those who incite violence. Neutral, she was scryed and marked.

Action Taken: None yet.

Belgos

A master smith and novice runecaster of the Naming of Baragel, Belgos was recognized for his genius with metals and magic at a young age. Lawful Good/Neutral, Belgos was scried and marked. He currently serves under a renowned master craftsmen who has fled to the mountains to avoid being captured and imprisoned by the Vodoni. Belgos will soon be a master himself, however, because his old master has only a few years left in him and desperately tries to pass on what he knows before he dies.

Action Taken: None yet.

Talabrina

See the entry for the adventuring company called The Chosen.

Luanya

A priestess of Kiaransalee, Luanya appears to actually be working with the Vodoni at the moment, though this might be a temporary alliance to strike back at her home village. Chaotic Evil, she has been scried and marked. Serathin and Noose considered for a long time whether to kill or try to reform her. Eventually Serathin won out, and hatched a plot to try to turn her away from her path of hatred. Luanya's faith in Kiaransalee appears to arise out of a hatred of good priesthoods, who were responsible for ostracising her mother (a drug addict) and driving her to suicide. Luanya has chosen the naming of Nurethein, to gather enough magical power to destroy those she opposes. In 1373, Serathin had Korethaen arrange for her priesthood to find evidence that she was acting as a spy for the Vodyanoi. She was subsequently captured and then bound to be sacrificed to a small band of wights that the priesthood kept within their vaults - a secret to which the young Luanya had not been initiated. Korethaen waited until the last moment to break her free, letting her taste the truth about her goddess. After breaking her free, he slew the priestesses and burned an Athar symbol into the ground around the shrine. Impressed by his zeal, Luanya asked him who he was. Korethaen did not reply, but instead left a book of Athar philosophy with her and departed without another word. Luanya has spent the last several months digesting the words of the book, which is called Gods and the Great Beyond. She found the text moving, and immediately took up the battle to free her people from the shackles of worship to the cold and cruel gods. Since her brush with annihilation, her alignment has begun shifting toward Chaotic Neutral. To Serathin's surprise, and apprehension, Luanya's words have been well received by many Koffu who perceive the Vodoni as proof that the Vanir are weak and have abandoned their Koffu children.

Khejadrie

A matron among the clans, she rapidly opposes violence against the Vodoni, fearing for the safety of her people. Neutral Good, she has been scried and marked. Serathin is debating removing her or taking steps to change her opinion on matters. Kheajadrie follows the naming of Haeldra. She is beginning to show her age, but this has only added to her dignity and presence. When she speaks, she carries such conviction that it is almost impossible to oppose her. In 1373 DR, Khejadrie was unexpectedly approached by a young Koffu woman called Varaena (one of the Fated) who claimed she had been quested by unknown saviors to guard Khejadrie. Khejadrie laughed at this absurdity, and freed Varaena from any such compulsion. Khejadrie was surprised and amused when the young woman chose to remain even though freed from this magical compulsion. Though Khejadrie knows not what to think of this, she does recognize Varaena as a passionate and headstrong woman, and has begun to take her as something of an apprentice. Wise though she is, however, even Khejadrie may balk when she learns of Varaena's past.

Tezzintar

A young mushroom carver and construction worker, Tezzintar is studying to become an architect and has great potential. He is a student of a once-renowned architect who has now fallen on hard times. Given the shortage of new contracts after the invasion, Tezzintar may not be able to complete his journeymanship, but he already has more skill than most masters. Friendly and outgoing, he otherwise has no interesting characteristics. Neutral (Good), he was scryed and marked. Follows the naming of Baragel. In 1373, Tezzintar was hired to design small, economical fortresses that (unbeknownst to him) are now being built in the periphery of Caer Trildane, to extend the line against the Blacklands. As part of his fee, he has received books about military tactics and fortifications. In 1374, Vigil plans call for his drawings to be leaked to the resistance movement in Koffuspace.

Tithmael

Female, middle aged, unable to scry, history unknown. Clothing indicates magical skill. Activities unknown. Probably follows naming of Nurethein. Attempts to contact her have failed so far, save for a single reply to a sending asking that she be left alone.

Chalithra

Daughter of a great tribal lord who has submitted to the Vodoni, she opposes his move but remains by his side. Secretly, she trains in magic and stealth for the day she must openly oppose the Vodoni. Feigning weakness and ignorance, she prepares a network of spies and feeds them limited information about the Vodoni's troop movements and plans that she gleans from her father during his angry ramblings. She worries greatly for her older brother, who lacks her caution and often speaks more openly against the invaders rather than opposing them quietly. Neutral Good, scryed and marked. Chalithra follows the naming of Ryld. In 1373, she inherited an amulet of protection from detection and location from a long lost great aunt.

Wynnyth

A female warrior of great skill and determination, but young and untested. She currently serves in a village militia, and has been trying to work up the courage to join one of the bands of renegades in the area. In 1373, after finding an amulet of proof vs. detection and location 15' radius, she eloped and joined an adventuring band.

Bezzindar

Inducted into the Vigilar.

Makuir

A member of the Chosen

Ellenae

A young and happy girl of great vision, allegedly gifted with foresight, she has taken an apprenticeship with a village seer. Not yet of marriagable age, she wishes to travel before settling down. Other than that, she is a shy, quiet girl. Ellenae follows the naming of Lyllyth, and has already been accepted as an acolyte of Ellistrae. Chaotic Good, scryed and marked.

Action Taken: None yet.

Renaedhar

A newborn boy of perhaps three years age, dwelling in the slums of a medium sized city. Abandoned by his father, Renaedhar looks to have a poor childhood. Scryed and marked.

Action Taken: None yet.

Elethyl

An elderly woman with only a few more decades left in her, she spent most of her life serving as a counsellor and wise woman. She knows many, many people who have come to her for help over the years, but she holds no position of formal importance or significance. Neutral Good. Scryed and marked. She follows the naming of Haeldra. Given her uselessness to the Vodoni, no Vigilar has intervened with her life as of yet.

Obsul il-Illindeth (17 total)

Ataiya
Inducted to the Vigilar.

Elmryn

A young (twenty year olf) boy born to a small clan in an unremarkable village, Elmryn appears quite ordinary for a child of his age. If life were to continue as normal for him, he'd likely grow up to be a mushroom farmer or a craftsman. He is beginning to develop a Chaotic Good alignment, and has not chose his naming. He was scried and marked.

Action Taken: None yet.

Zuth

Native to Illindrae, the spymaster of Prince Illindrae, not captured by the Vodoni. Unable to be scried. Very little is known about him. He was charged with preparing the Koffu's defenses for the Vodoni's return, and while thought dead he apparently survived the destruction of the city. Known to wear disguises at all times, it is not even known whether the prince of the city knew his true appearance. A follower of the naming of Ryld, Zuth may have some allegiance to Vhaerun, but none could say. All attempts to communicate with him have failed. However, from time to time, he is sent information by Sending about the Vodoni that does not violate Vigil security protocols and that he could conceivably use.

Melindiira

Another priestess of Ellistrae, new to the faith. Not a terribly aggressive woman, she tries to teach peaceful resolution of problems, but has recently suffered a crisis when several of her flock were publicly tortured and burned as examples to others. She does not know who to blame - the resistance movement or the Vodoni - and is trying to find her own path through the dangers ahead. (Neutral Good, Scryed and marked). Melindiira is a follower of the naming of Lylyth.

Action Taken: A "stranger" will take her to visit the Lake of Woe in her "dreams". Thereafter, she will be narrowly escape a Vodoni search party trying to capture her for seditious acts falsely blamed on her through the discovery of incriminating documents, and will receive an Amulet of Proof vs. Det. and Loc. before she flees.

Athlur

A newly transformed bionoid, formerly a herder of thurengiri and a mushroom farmer. Reputed for his common sense and general good-natured humor. A rustic fellow, dwelling far from the lost city of Illindrae. Still a follower of the naming of Durandareth, Athlur has been instrumental in helping the Black Knights near his area attain the cooperation and understanding of local citizens. In 1373, he inherited a stack of military texts and an amulet of protection from detection and location 15' radius from a long lost uncle whom he had never previously heard of. After cajoling a friend into reading the books aloud to him, he left to join the resistance.

Gwarren Ezendriis

A flamboyant and dare-devil merchant who recently inherited his father's fortunes. Despises the Vodoni for their rigid laws, but dares not oppose them. Though he does not work for the Vodoni, he will happily take advantage of local shortages to turn a handsome profit. Chaotic Neutral, Scryed and marked. Aside from his reckless nature, he is like a hundred other merchants who travel the countryside of the hollow world, save for one secret - in his off time, he studies magic under a private tutor. Gwarren follows the naming of Ryld. In 1373 DR, Gwarren received an invitation to participate in a smuggling operation offsphere. He was given an amulet of proof vs. detection and location as a signing bonus, but quickly grew bored and disappeared back into the underworld of Koffuspace's largest cities. Though he is monitored from time to time, the Vigilar have not interferred anymore with his life.

Sabrenna of Clan Onnowaeth

A merchant princess who had not care about anything save her personal wealth and power, until her brother was killed by the Vodoni during the reoccupation and she herself was transformed into a bionoid. She now uses her merchant activities as a cover for her other actions, and controls a far flung network of caravans which travel to the greatest cities of Obsul il-Illindeth (sometimes taking the equivalent of five hundred days to make the full circuit). Neutral Good, scryed and marked, Sabrenna now follows the naming of Kalendrae. In 1373, Sabrenna received offers to participate in a lucrative smuggling circuit. As a signing bonus, she was given an amulet of protection from detection and location. She has taken very well to her new position.

Duthaas

A tribal prince of Illindrae, one of those rescued by the Knights from the Vodoni. Alfter losing most of his family and his holdings, he has nothing left but vengeance. He would gladly accept the curse of "knighthood" if he could, but failing this, he searches for the stranger called Quinn the Mercilless to learn how to fight the invaders. He brings with him a group of like-minded elites who have nothing but family heirlooms. Though young, they are fierce warriors and have a rune-caster among them. Chaotic Neutral, scryed and marked. Duthaas is a follower of the naming of Anru. In 1373, Duthaas received a mysterious package containing an autographed copy of the writings of Quinn the Merciless, as well as an amulet of proof vs. detection and location 15' radius.

Rhuna

A priestess of the Vanir, and a peaceloving woman. Little more is known. She could not be scryed. Suspected Neutral of Chaotic Good. Likely follows the naming of Kalendrae.

Action Taken: None yet.

Dureld

A middle aged and very gifted runesmith and sorcerer. Could not be scryed. Alignment indeterminate. Likely follows naming of Nurethein, though possibly Yalaena or another. In 1373, after repeated attempts to contact him by sending, Serathin arranged a meeting between him and Ataiya. After some negotiation, Dureld agreed to take on the Fated Noredain as an apprentice, teaching him runecraft to augment his skill with the blade. In spite of Ataiya's exhortations, Dureld refuses to take on more than one apprentice at a time, and refuses to reveal more about himself than he must. Dureld is known to have extensive contacts with a secret organization of runesmiths who call themselves the Ebony Scribes, but the Vigil has been able to learn nothing about the Ebony Scribes save that they are rumored to travel the planes and have the power to communicate with the guardians within the crystal sphere.

Jhalass Quveinne

A small time catburglar in one of the larger Koffu cities. Unremarkable at the moment. During the day, she acts as a consort of wealthy families to learn how best to rob from them. Though female, she venerates Vhaerun (but only in passing). Though upset that the Vodoni have cramped her style, she is intensely curious about these strange outsiders, and plays a dangerous game trying to get close to them to learn more. Chaotic Neutral. So far, the Vigilar have not interfered with her, but watches her closely.

Siryndel

A young female child who is studious and quick of mind, but otherwise unremarkable. A few decades from adulthood, she has only recently entered an apprenticeship under a hedge-witch sorceress when her parents fostered her out to the outlying villages to avoid the enforcer patrols. The sorcerous, unknown to the child, must be more powerful than she appears, because her home radiates intense magics and she herself could not be scryed. Moreover, her "parents" could not be located, and her original home had been cleaned out. Neutral Good, scryed and marked, and will likely choose the naming of Ryld. There is something strange about her ancestry, but discrete attempts by the Vigilar to look into this have met with failure. Divinations about her ancestry fail, and her parentage is entirely unknown.

Tirbaneth

Member of the Chosen

Kyrillie

A forest runner and ranger of the mushroom jungles, she seeks to protect the vast and untamed wilderness of the Koffu world. As removed as she is from civilization, she fears the depredations of the giant spiders and other obnoxious predators more than the Vodoni. Raised by druids, she has a keen sense of the balance of nature, but believe in the innate good of each individual. Neutral (Good), scryed and marked, and a follower of the naming of Kalendrae. In 1373, she found an amulet of proof vs. detection and location in an ancient grove - apparently a gift of the gods.

Varaena

A young priestess recently indoctrinated into something called the Cult of the Spider. She is Chaotic Evil, a vicious woman who was beaten by her father during her youth and viciously hates all males. She later killed him in his sleep and ran away, where she was taken in by the cult and initiated into the secrets of the spider. She has denied any naming, but claims to follow the naming of Haeldra to those not initiated into the cult. Early in 1373 DR, she was betrayed by her Cult when her cult obtained (false) information that she had fallen in love with a priest of the Vanir. She was seized and brought to a hidden temple for sacrifice, where she cursed the name of the Spider and all of her captors. Prior to her sacrifice, however, a patrol of enforcers was lured to the site by Yhaniss, Bezzindar, and Izhar. After the priestesses of the Cult of the Spider and the Enforcers had worn each other down, the two Vigilar and their band of guerillas annihilated the remaining enforcers and rescued Varaena. Confused and filled with hatred of her former allies, she tried to feign innocence. The Vigilar made a show of interrogating her, however, and after a prolonged discussion decided not to kill her outright. They instead compelled her to accept a quest to guard the Fated Koffu known as Khejadrie until such time as Khejadrie from harm. Khejadrie, who is a pacifist, knew nothing of this plot. When approached by Varaena with the offer of protection, Khejadrie instantly freed the young former priestess from the quest, however. This was a moment of decision, for had Khejadrie departed and returned to her old ways, the Vigilar would have kidnapped and slain her. Instead, however, she was overcome with curiousity about the old woman, and chose to stay of her own accord. She remains with Khejadrie to this day, but is still closely watched by the Vigilar in Koffuspace.

Elmryn

A member of the Chosen.

Anadarth

A vicious Koffu war-leader who uses whatever means necessary to fight the invaders, including burning the villages of alleged "sympathizers". Though accompanied by a priest of Vhaerun, he needed no encouragement to begin his campaign of terror. Known only to the locals as the Black Knife, the Vodoni have actually tried and failed to protect sympathetic villages from his wrath. Scryed and marked. Serathin is contemplating more direct action. Chaotic Evil, he follows the naming of Anru, but practices the war aspect much more than the honor aspect. In 1373, he received a small folder with information about the Vodoni, as well as a note in obscure script warning him to curb his excesses lest he be delivered to the Vodoni. Though unnerved for a few weeks, he eventually returned to his old ways - though he looks over his shoulder now and then. The Vigil is considering more extreme measures, but so far Serathin and Noose have forbidden any more intervention in Anadarth's affairs.
