This sphere contains only two celestial bodies: a massive planet at its center, and a somewhat smaller sun which revolves around it. At first approximation the planet is some ten times the diameter of Toril. This implies a surface area one hundred times more vast! And every square inch of this surface is covered with a thick carpet of emerald green.
The planet Thasia exhibits an intensely powerful field of life energy, which the native, intelligent Thasians appear to demonstrate some control over. They have so far repulsed every attempt the Vodoni have made to establish a colony on the planet's surface for any length of time, let alone dominate it. The Vodoni have, however, extracted some of the native fauna and flora as tools and weapons.
Research into the history of Thasia, as well as knowledge that surfaced during attempts to prevent Acererak's ascendance using the Apparatus, led to a surprising discovery. The source of the incredibly powerful life field within the world of Thasia apparently results from the merging of another planet's life force with its own life field. This other planetary life force, according to some theories, originally came from the world of Rennais. These theories suggest that this life force was ejected from the planet of Rennais when Orcus' wand was unleashed and sent the planet spiralling into a vortex of undeath and negative planar energy.
Apparently frightened of the Thasians, the Vodoni constructed and maintained a vast network of space fortresses around the world of Thasia, presumably to prevent the Thasians from escaping. Most of this cordon was constructed using tens of thousands of dead-magic tainted asteroids from Lostspace, and survived the destruction of the Eye of the Gods in 1373 DR. The asteroids exerted a ward-like around the planet, helping to monitor passage into the planet and utterly preventing passage out of the planet. These bases were manned by several thousand Vodoni breeders, and possibly as many as several million enforcers. When the Vodoni suffered repeated attacks from enemies whom they angered while at the height of their power, they withdrew their troops and ships from this sphere in order to consolidate their power base in Vodonispace, Gorthspace, Lostspace, and the part of Passarspace that they continued to control. Immediately after this withdrawal, they sent the cordon of asteroids hurtling down at the planet's surface, causing destruction on a massive scale.
Prior to the destruction of the Eye of the Gods, allies of the Knights of the Sword Coast (Specifically, a greenwood ranger allied to the temple of Lathander) made contact with the native Thasians of the central world. Although initial contact was very tense, the emissary of the Knights eventually developed a speaking relationship with the Thasians, who were suspicious of outsiders ever since their encounter with the Vodoni. The Thasians are an entirely plant-like race. Indeed, the only living entities on the world are plants, insects, and spiders. The Thasians themselves are mobile, intelligent plants. Thasian elders even have the ability to work and cast magic, and are extremely skilled in lifeshaping magics. It was these lifeshaping magics that enabled the Thasians to grow plants capable of repelling even the devastating energy attacks of the orbital crystal citadels.
The world view of the Thasians differs considerably from that
of any other known sentient life form. Their religion, if they have one,
appears to resemble druidic beliefs in some (but not all) ways. After many
years of suffering from the Vodoni cordon, they are free, but their
freedom proved costly. Even with the potent life energy of the world, and
the advanced life shaping magics of the elder Thasians, it will take decades
to fully recover from the cataclysmic destruction wrought by the
asteroid bombardment. Although the Thasias did once
offer the Knights help fighting the Vodoni and/or repairing the damage
to the planet of Rennais in Gravespace if the Knights could assist them
in escaping the cordon, the Knights have not yet resumed contact
with the Thasians, nor do they expect the Thasians to be particularly
grateful when they do.
